Noblesse Oblige

Noblesse Oblige/ Lynne Margaret Connolly/ ISBN 1-897261-77-2 Champage Books/paperback/288pg

Marianne Noble is in the unenviable position of being a lady's companion. Mrs Middleton is a sharp-tongued woman with loose morals, something that makes her companion uneasy, especially when Jerome Rivers comes into their lives during their stay at the fashionable restort of Scarborough.

Marianne finds herself drawn to the charming but mysterious gentleman despite her shyness. However, her employer makes it clear that she has the prior claim, losing no chance to humiliate Marianne. Driven to the edge of despair, Marianne contemplates accepting the offer of another gentleman she likes, but hesitates until Jerome returns to beg her to go away with him. This is only the beginning of the story for Marianne is swept up into a world of luxury, privilege and intrigue. Danger lies hidden just beneath the surface, waiting!

This is a Regency with a difference. We have romance, pathos, mystery and a hint of menace. However , it is the wholly believable and real development of Marianne's character that makes this such a good book
