Interview With Giselle Renarde

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m a Canadian city-dweller, but I would love to live in a forest bordering on a lake. Water is incredibly soothing. One day I’ll be a crazy cat lady, but I only have two kitties so far. My education is in communication theory, with special interest in sexuality and gender studies. I do volunteer work to help improve the lives of women and women-led families, but it’s a drop in the ocean. I want to do more for my community.

What do you write?

I write erotica. Straight, gay, lesbian, group... Actually, my story The Birthday Gift (Dark Eden Press) encompasses all of the above.

Why do you write?

Writing and art have been my primary creative outlets since I was very young. Just the other week, my mother showed me a box she kept of the little French books I wrote and illustrated in grade school. They’re too cute!
Now I write because I love to build characters, throw them into situations and see what the end up doing. It’s a weird and wonderful feeling when a story comes through you and not from you.

What are you writing now?

I’m just finishing up an erotic fairy tale. It’s the darkest work I’ve written to date. Deeply psychological and swimming with symbolism. I just love it!

What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

Depends on where I am. When I’m at home I wear frilly, sexy, feminine clothes. When I leave the house, I dress almost like a boy. Strange, right?

Are you in love? Have you ever been?

I’ve been head over heels for a beautiful man who should have resisted me but couldn’t. Maybe I’ll write a book about it some day.

Do you have a dream lover – and what does he look like?

I swoon for my fellow Canadian, Leonard Cohen. His smoky voice keeps me warm at night. That charmer Cary Grant is up there too. Oh, and I have a huge crush on Professor Snape from Harry Potter.
Ultimately, I’m a sucker for the baldies. I like a highly intelligent older man with an athletic physique and a voice to die for. Patrick Stewart comes to mind…

What kind of comfort food do you like best?

Any combination of cheese and chocolate is good. How about chocolate cheesecake? I’m a coffee addict with a tea habit on the side. Throw in some red wine, too. Oh, red wine and kettle chips. Yum yum!

What makes you laugh? Cry?

Storyteller Stuart McLean makes me laugh and cry on his radio show, The Vinyl CafĂ©. I’ve seen every episode of The Simpsons about forty times, but when I really want to laugh I’ll watch British comedies like Coupling. Hilarious!
Music makes me cry more than anything else. Particularly the “sail on silver girl” verse of Bridge over Troubled Waters. That gets me every time.

What do you do to amuse yourself when not working?

Everyone who knows me will tell you I’m a reader. There’s a little garden on my balcony that I try to keep alive. I also knit obsessively. Every day, I take my mp3 player for a walk through my local cemetery. It’s so peaceful there. I love to cook and bake as well.

What is it in a man or woman that turns you on? The clean version please!

The sexiest part of a man and a woman is the collarbone. There’s something very sensual about that shadow it creates. And a sharp mind makes anyone attractive, I find.

What do you hate about life?

I hate that we’ve been blessed with this beautiful planet and we seem to be doing everything we can to kill it. I’m a firm believer that every small effort helps, and that we can make a difference.

What do you hope to achieve in life and when will you know that you have been a success?

Oscar Wilde wrote, “something hidden away in my nature, like a treasure in a field, is Humility.” Living a simple and humble life is my greatest challenge, and would be my greatest achievement. When I’ve abandoned conceit, and when my life is devoted to helping others, I’ll be a success.

What are you going to write next?

I have more ideas than I can keep up with. There’s a historical romance percolating in the back of my mind. Foyle’s War has me itching to learn more about the roles women played in WWII.

One of my favourite periods! We should enjoy reviewing something like that on Red Roses For Authors!

Coming Back A Virgin

Coming Back a Virgin by C.J. Maxx

Walter is an author. He is having a problem writing his books. Lorraine has come to help him. Problem is Lorraine is a reoccurring character from his books. Lorraine is tired of the scenes that Walter writes her into. She has come to teach him about romance and seduction. To show him what a reader really wants when they read a book. To help him get to be the great author he has the potential of being. While Lorraine is busy teaching Walter they fall in love and wonder if it can work out. Lorraine has a chance to come back as more than a character from a book. Walter wants more than Lorraine as just a character and is willing to do whatever is necessary to accomplish that.

Lorraine comes back as much more than a character and the fun begins. All Walter has accomplished he has to cover again with the new Lorraine. Walter has to take all the lessons he has learned and put them to good use with the new Lorraine.

This is a good book and fun read. This one is worth reading. You fall in love with the characters of the book. Definitely worth taking the time to read this one.

I give this one 4-1/2 red roses.

Arm charm

Arm Charm by Doreen Lewis

Triskelion Publishing

140 Pages

2007

Arm Charm by Doreen Lewis is a fantastic story that kept me engrossed from the very first page till the very last. In this novel, Doreen Lewis ventures into a territory usually ignored by many romance writers: what happens after the happy ever after.

Rena Sutherland thought that her marriage was a solid one. She had been with her husband for decades and she would have bet money on the fact that she and James would grow old together. But Rena is in for a shock when her beloved husband confesses that he’s been sleeping with his assistant.

For the first time in 30+ years, Rena finds herself on her own having to find ways by which she can support herself as she faces the world as a single woman. As Rena begins to gain strength from her independence and begins to realize that maybe being single is not such a bad thing to be, her husband James begins to see his former wife in a whole new light and begins thinking about getting her back…

But he’s going to have some tough competition from Eddy Alexander, a poet and potter, who seems equally determined to sweep Rena off her feet.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ms. Lewis’ book and do hope that she writes another book soon. Arm Charm is a charming tale of hope and second chances that had me glued to my computer screen.

Moving, romantic and engrossing, this is a tale women everywhere will relate to!

A Compromised Lady

A Compromised Lady by Elizabeth Rolls

Harlequin Historicals

September 2007

ISBN: 9780373294640

5 Stars

Elizabeth Rolls is one of the stars of Regency romance and she’s back with an eagerly awaited new novel which her fans will lap up in a single sitting – A Compromised Lady.

As a young girl Miss Dorothea Winslow was a mischievous imp bubbling with happiness, but for the past few years she’s been a shadow of her former self living a quiet life away from the temptations and glittering ballrooms of London. But her father is determined that his daughter, a rich heiress, will find a suitable husband and he orders her to come to London to begin her search. But in London Thea meets a man from her past who could hold the key to her locked heart.

Richard Blakehurst was a former acquaintance of Thea and he’s struck by how reserved she now is. Richard assumes that the reasons she’s so is because of a past tragedy in her life, but Thea, who has found herself attracted to Richard, realizes that all her money will not buy her Richard’s good opinion – or his heart.

You simply cannot beat Elizabeth Rolls! Her characters are exquisite, her dialogue superb and her storytelling prowess just astounding. I always look forward to reading the novels of Ms. Rolls for she is a writer readers can count on to deliver a historical romance that is simply enthralling!

Fortune Cookies

Dee Dawning/Fortune Cookies/eXtasy Books/411 pages/ebook

Jill meets her friends, Gail, and Rita and Saundra and others at Eddie Chang's place, because she wants them to sample the fortune cookies that brought her a wonderful lover and the baby she had longed for. The magic in these cookies only works if you are not truly fulfilled in your life and it turns out that most of the girls need a touch of magic in one way or another – but can it work for all of them?

This is an extremely well crafted book. It is erotic and suitable only for over eighteens, but it has a really good story, which some erotic books do not have. This book has a charm and magic all its own. If you enjoy reading very sexy books then I recommend this one to you. This is certainly five red roses and I rather think it ought to have a whole bouquet, because of all the work and creativity that went into it. and that is a first for an erotic book, but it is also very much a romance. Besides, he knows from bitter experience that most women are poison. How come Allison’s hazel eyes have such a devastating effect on him? Interview with MC Halliday

Tell us a little about yourself

Well, other than my complete devotion to reading and writing, I love animals and have always had pets to keep me company. My dogs are such good boys and lay at my feet as I type away, not asking for much until I leave my desk! I’m lucky to live in a place where I can keep the doors open all day long most of the year, and they wander in and out. Cats, I adore them too! I’ve always had a Siamese but since my last adorable girl passed, I haven’t been able to look at another sweet, back masked kitten without feeling sad. I find the many bird songs around my home most entrancing, differing from early morning to late night. One year, I was lucky enough to make an acquaintance with a lonely woodpecker who lost his mate. His forlorn song was like an teddy I had long ago, if you tipped him upside down he would twitter with a groan. Oh, and I love the sound of croaking frogs...I have many frog friends about my place and they allow me to stroke them as I come across their hiding places during my gardening rounds.

What do you write?

Tales of women’s lives are super interesting, don’t you think? The settings range in time from medieval to Victorian and on to contemporary. Some are single title romance or trilogy HEA and last but not least, a noir mystery series with romantic elements.

I especially like vivid characters and get to know them really well before beginning an outline…if I know them, the reader will feel the same way. Aren’t we all looking for connection? And surprising revelations for the reader and unexpected plot twists are favourites, too.

In my mystery series, I seek to keep the reader in suspense with a knife sharp shocking who-dun-it tale while delving into the hidden side of the heroine, revealing her deepest thoughts. I think a dark mystery with a flawed heroine is delicious!

Why do you write?

Truth, I came to place in my life where it was write or die. Literally. I had always wanted to write and had done a great deal of it when I was younger, but denied my authentic self as I listened to well meaning family members tell me I could not make money doing it. I came to realise it doesn’t matter if I am a pauper, what does matter is that I am fulfilled, passionate and living my dream.

What are you writing now?

At present, I have two (2) 80 to 90K works in progress:

A MAIDEN BETWIXT THE DEAD

Detective Inspector Octavia Cambridge Mystery, Book III

I CAME ACROSS THE SEA

A Victorian Courtesan’s Memoirs, Book II

What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

I’d love to say I wear designer togs but the truth is, I’m a jeans and T-top kinda gal. I live on the outskirts of a village tucked in the mountains and it’s not the sort of place one strolls about in a skirt and heels. Mind you, it is a little corner of heaven where everyone is kind and friendly, ready to share a laugh and enjoy a chat.

Are you in love? Have you ever been?

Recently, I happened to be chatting with my best friend about this! I have been enamoured with a fellow since I was eleven years old but we went our separate ways in the world. Perhaps that’s why I so readily envision the challenges of finding and keeping love. It is a most precious gift to be loved but perhaps, more so to be compatible or complementary in a relationship.

What kind of comfort food do you like best?

Chocolate, milk or white with nuts or truffle centres! But I like just about every food there is, particularly spaghetti bolognese; potatoes in any way, shape or form; donuts; cheese on anything! I adore Indian and Greek cuisine.

What makes you laugh? Cry?

Dry humour is the best but the absurd and the ridiculous are terrifically enjoyable, if done well. I can cry at almost anything touching, sad or hurtful.

What do you do to amuse yourself when not working?

I am an avid gardener and adore my mix of cultivated gardens with areas of old growth trees and wild flowers. I am also a painter and enjoy working with plaster so I have created my own style of 3D art rendered on walls or wooden boards (canvas doesn’t support the plaster.) For my property, I design and build almost anything outdoors: fences, pergolas and the like.

What is it in a man or woman that turns you on?

My dream man is intelligent and if he’s somewhat nerdy, wears specs and has unkempt hair, I swoon. To me, here is something very sexy about the quiet, beta fellow and I see much truth in the adage, “Still waters run deep.” Although, I’ll admit to more than my share of exciting alphas but in the end, there is usually too much drama for my liking.

What do you hope to achieve in life and when will you know that you have been a success?

Success to me is living authentically, not denying my passions. I have been blessed to be able to embrace my dreams, spend years finding my author voice and accepting the plan of the universe or supreme being, if you will.

What are you going to write next?

My notebook of ideas grows by the day. Some of them turn into outlines and I know I shall write them as I already see the heroine very clearly. Here are projects I have planned for next year!

Definitely, another Detective Inspector Octavia Cambridge Mystery. I would like to title it, A HOLIDAY FOR THE BUSMAN. (For those of you not British, a ‘busman’s holiday’ is taking a vacation but ending up doing what you do for work…hence, DI Octavia Cambridge will have a murder to solve while on holiday.)

And I have the outline completed for the last book in the Victorian Courtesan’s Memoirs trilogy, I CAME TO RECKONING. Mae ties up the loose ends from her past and finds love.

Other ideas I have been planning are further tales of women in history, for example the Roman Empire and also a sci-fi romance.

My website with book list, first chapter excerpts and upcoming novels can be found at: http://members.shaw.ca/mchalliday

Interview for Jade Twilight

Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Jade Twilight, I live in Upstate New York with my husband, 3 year old daughter, and three Guinea Pigs Rico, Dee Dee and Gunther. I've made up stories since I was little and my mother says I've been writing since I could put a pen to paper. Reading and writing were an escape from the mundane world. I've always been fascinated by vampires, werewolves, and the paranormal. When I was little I loved fairy tails, when I got older it was the Goosebumps books by R.L.Stine. Then one day I found the Romance section of the library and I was lost. Books where and are my favorite thing in the world, next to my daughter that is. In high school I volunteered in both my school library and public. Everyone said I'd grow up to be a librarian, which is a job I would love, but I have to say writing is so much better.

What do you write?
Paranormal Romance
Fantasy Romance
Erotic Romance

Why do you write?
I just have to. It's this werid need, I guess it's a writer's thing.

What are you writing now?
A little of this and a little of that.

What kind of clothes do you like to wear?
Comfy ones, around the house boxer shorts and my hubby tee-shirts. Outside jeans and tee-shirt

Are you in love? Have you ever been?
Yes! I'd have to be in order to deal with my hubby. lol

Do you have a dream lover – and what does he look like?
Of course doesn't every one. Tall, dark and handsome with a good sense of humor.

What kind of comfort food do you like best?
Fried Chicken, and Toffee Church bars. What a combo.

What makes you laugh? Cry?
This is a hard one. Books, Music, and Movies. I guess.

What do you do to amuse yourself when not working?
Play with my Daughter, watch TV with my hubby, monkey with the computer, & trying to learn new things.

What is it in a man or woman that turns you on? The clean version please!
A sense of Humor, and a gentleness about him. Oh and I really like romance, old fashion romance.

What do you hate about life?
Stress! I hate Stress more than anything.

What do you hope to achieve in life and when will you know that you have been a success?
A book in print. When I can walk into a book store and buy it or at least pick it up and go "Hey, I wrote this."

What are you going to write next?
I have a fantasy/Erotic Romance I'm working on and a Paranormal Novel.

Looking forward to reading your new book, Jade!

Bodine's Bountry

Bodine’s Bounty by Charlene Sands/Harelquin/ISBN 978-0373294725/304pgs

It’s mid October 1882 in River Junction Northern California. The air is cold and crisp as winter nears. Bodine the bounty hunter is leaning against the livery stable wall keeping close watch on the saloon across the street.

Tall and rugged he makes a tempting target for any would be gunman. That possibility never entered his mind. He is focused on what’s going on in the saloon. Bodine is on the hunt. Tracking a killer named Metcalf. This is personal to him. This killer gunned down his twin brother and put a bullet in his shoulder of which he is painfully reminded on cold days like this. So far he hasn’t had much luck finding Metcalf.

His immediate concern is Emma Marie Rourke, the granddaughter of his old commanding officer during the war. Young and feisty she has abandoned her fiancé in search of a career in stage singing and if fate willing meet her father for the first time.

Emma has a hard time convincing people to give her a chance to sing. Being small in stature and slim no one thinks she can sing. Finally deciding the best way to convince people is to give them a sample of her voice when trying to get the job, she stuns everyone who hears her for the first time. From such a small person comes the most amazing voice.

Not in either of their plans is falling in love. Fighting their attraction becomes harder and harder the more time they are together. Bodine fights the attraction the hardest because of his obligations and promise to his dying brother.

Bodine has his hands full with trying to keep Emma safe. He is constantly rescuing Emma from one disaster after another. From rescuing her from angry saloon owners to Indians he is constantly kept on his toes.

Bodine is trying to get Emma to go home and give up her search for her father while he is searching for Metcalf.

Just as Emma realizes her dreams of finding her father and singing on a stage, Bodine gets the break he as been searching for in his quest for justice. He finds Metcalf but it comes at a price he hadn’t counted on.

This is an excellent western. It has all the elements in westerns it keeps you on a roller coaster as you are drawn into the story you feel all of Emma’s happiness and pain. This is one to definitely read if you like westerns. This is a keeper.

I give this one 5 red roses. Larena

Tell us a little about yourself (Cassie Exline)

What do you write? Erotic romance, contemporary, humour, & mysteries.

Why do you write? It's my passion. Just like breathing, if I want to survive, I must write.

What are you writing now? Finishing Confessions of a Murderer and working with another author on a short story.

What kind of clothes do you like to wear? Comfy – shorts & t-shirt or jeans & t-shirt

Are you in love? Have you ever been? Very in love. Have been a couple different times, but think hubby is here to stay. Besides the kids are used to their father.

Do you have a dream lover – and what does he look like? Oh yes, a dream lover who does and says all the right things and presses all the right buttons at the perfect moment. And the stamina he has! Wowsie! It's strange though, because he looks like my hubby. Dark wavy hair, blue eyes, buff bod and strong arms.

What kind of comfort food do you like best? popcorn

What makes you laugh? Cry? Just about anything will make me laugh. Don't ever fall in front of me. I'll help you up, but I'll be laughing the entire time. I love to laugh and enjoy making people laugh. As for cry, tears roll at sad movies, touching moments, even Oprah shows or Dr. Phil shows, and of course, when missing my children who are away from home.

What do you do to amuse yourself when not working? If I'm not writing or emailing or networking, you'll find me either curled up on the sofa watching Murder, She Wrote or playing computer games. Give me Jessica Fletcher or a good game of Text Twist.

What is it in a man or woman that turns you on? The clean version please! His eyes. But a man's voice can make me melt. On the phone once, while listening to my sweetie talk, I ... oh that's right, clean version. Let me put it this way it was a wonderful conversation and I was exhausted by the time we hung up.

What do you hate about life? Unreliability. People or things. If we're to meet at 6 p.m., be there. If I turn the switch to start an appliance or car – then start.

What do you hope to achieve in life and when will you know that you have been a success? My goal has been to write and be published. I've done that. I've made it baby!

What are you going to write next? An erotic mystery. Sexy and scary. And I’ve been dying to try my hand at time travel. Let my imagination soar. Life doesn't get much better than that. Oh, and plan to write five flashes for a festival, a story about peaches, and something for Halloween. Outside of that, I don't know. Christmas?
