Letters From Pemberley

Jane Dawkins/Letters From Pemberley/ Sourcebooks/Print/213pgs /ISBN13:978-14022-0906-2 /Canada/$13.95 /US $17.95/ Uk/£7.95

Elizabeth and Darcy are settling into their married life at Pemberley. The story of their first year together takes the form of some delightful letters from Lizzie to her sister Jane, Mrs Bingley. We hear about Georgiana, Lydia, Kitty, Colonel Fitzwilliam, Mr Bennett and of course Mrs Bennett’s nerves! Also there are quite a few neighbours, some of whom seem to fit nicely with characters from other Jane Austen novels.

The book has humour and charm, which one would expect from something written as a tribute to fans of the incomparable Jane Austen. Because it is in the form of letters written in the first person it is easier to read than some sequels and should therefore appeal to readers who may love the films but have not actually read the books and would find the original heavy going perhaps. This book flows along and I found it very enjoyable. It is interesting to read about what their life might have been like after marriage.

I think this book deserves five red roses. Morna
